# Close an Amazon account after a death

After a death, Amazon can help end subscriptions, stop recurring deliveries or deactivate the account, even before every document is in. Account information and most other actions need an authorized [estate](https://planbeforeyoudie.app/glossary#estate) manager. If you're planning ahead, list your subscriptions and deliveries so your family knows what to cancel.

- 7 steps
- Official sources
### Ask Amazon to stop subscriptions and deliveries

Amazon says it can help end subscriptions, stop recurring deliveries or deactivate an account even without every [authorization](https://planbeforeyoudie.app/glossary#authorization) document. Your family should ask its team about the specific action they need. Do not promise information access from those limited options.

### Know what needs an estate manager

Amazon limits account details and most actions to requests from an authorized estate manager. Explain the verification process to your family. Knowing your email address, shopping preferences or phone number does not replace the authority Amazon requests.

### Keep the bereavement support link

Give the person you choose [Amazon's official bereavement page](https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=TzcJJiVFnIi3pG2yDA). It explains requests after a death. Read the current requirements there.

### List the Amazon services you use

Review your own account for subscriptions, recurring deliveries and other services your household relies on. Write the service names and which family member uses them. Do not assume that ending one membership will address every separate household arrangement.

### Choose what your family should know

Decide which deliveries need attention and which information should remain private. Record the location of relevant order or billing papers. Leave payment details and account credentials out of your preparation list, even when a paper record would be convenient.

### Separate shopping from home devices

List Amazon-connected home devices separately from shopping subscriptions. Use our [smart home guide](https://planbeforeyoudie.app/guides/phones/smart-home-devices) to review authorized control. A general note about Amazon does not explain how the household enters or uses the home.

### Check that instructions exist outside Amazon

Ask your family to locate the service list and official help link without opening your Amazon account. Add selected [family photo arrangements](https://planbeforeyoudie.app/guides/phones/icloud-photos-for-family) separately if relevant. Finish your [digital legacy review](https://planbeforeyoudie.app/guides/phones/digital-legacy) with the accounts that need a different provider's process.

## Good to know

### Does Amazon have a Legacy Contact setting?

The verified Amazon source here describes bereavement support after a death. It does not provide an advance [Legacy Contact](https://planbeforeyoudie.app/glossary#legacy-contact) setup route. Prepare the service list and official support instructions.

### Can my family stop recurring deliveries?

Amazon lists stopping recurring deliveries among the limited actions it can assist with without every authorization document. They should use the official bereavement contact and explain the request. This does not mean Amazon will disclose every account detail or accept every other action.

### Can my family get account information automatically?

No. Amazon describes authorization checks for account details and most actions. Keep family copies of information you deliberately want shared now. Ask a lawyer in your state if your family needs advice about legal authority for a later request.

### Should someone reset my password after death?

Your family should use Amazon's bereavement process and identify themselves. This guide does not suggest signing in as you or using your recovery email. Keep passwords and verification codes out of your instructions, this website and the family account sheet.

### Helping a parent organize Amazon services?

Ask them to review the services in their own account. Help them list recurring household deliveries and the location of relevant records. Let them decide what the family should know, and keep Amazon's official support page with those instructions.
