Share monthly care costs
One monthly care cost can be divided equally, by income share or by agreed percentages. Enter money, hours and things for each person. The worksheet shows target shares and a separate cash gap, for your family to talk over. You choose how to value time and things.
What figures describe the same month?
Use figures for one month throughout. Enter zero for a confirmed zero. Leave unknown amounts blank. Use short labels instead of full names.
What does each person contribute?
Start with two people. Add another person when needed. Each person chooses which time and things to include in the discussion.
What do these figures show?
Enter the monthly cost, choose a split method and enter each person's money contribution. The complete formulas remain below.
How can you work out the split?
- Use one month throughout Use the care cost, cash, hours, things and income weights for the same month. This worksheet does not spread a purchase across later months.
- Choose the terms for discussion Your family chooses the split method, hourly value and value of things. The worksheet does not choose a rate or create an agreement.
- Split equal targets The equal method gives every displayed person the same weight. Entered contributions do not change the target shares.
- Use entered income weights The income method divides the monthly cost in proportion to the entered monthly incomes. Enter every income weight. At least one must be positive. Other methods ignore income fields.
- Enter all agreed percentages The percentage method requires every share and a total of exactly 100.00%. Other methods ignore percentage fields.
- Allocate every cent once First take the whole-cent floor of cost times each weight divided by total weight. Award remaining cents by largest remainder, breaking ties in displayed person order. Targets add exactly to the monthly cost.
- Keep bill funding separate Cash gap equals monthly cost minus total actual cash, with a minimum of zero. Cash above cost is shown separately. Time and things never reduce the cash gap.
- Count each contribution once Do not count the same purchase as both a cash contribution and a thing. Enter only this month's chosen value. No amortization is added automatically.
- Value hours at your chosen rate Hours allow two decimal places. Multiply each person's exact hours by the one chosen hourly dollar value. Round that person's hours value once half up to cents before totals.
- Keep unknown entries unknown An explicit zero is known. Blank cash is unknown, so a complete cash total or gap is not shown. Blank hours and things remain unvalued. Zero hours have zero value even when the hourly rate is blank.
- Label incomplete discussion figures A discussion figure is target minus cash minus known hours and things values. It is partial when unvalued noncash entries are excluded, and it lists those exclusions. Unknown cash or targets withhold that figure.
- Use the figures for a conversation A negative discussion figure means known contribution value exceeds the chosen target. It does not mean money is owed, require a transfer or form an agreement. Print this worksheet for your family to talk over.
- Share only when you choose Copying a link requires explicit consent. Anyone with it can read the monthly cost, chosen hourly rate, labels, active income or percentage weights and contributions. Inactive method fields are left out. No link is updated while you type.
- Keep the software limits visible Use 2 to 12 people. Money entries are limited to $1,000,000,000,000.00 each. Hours are limited to 10,000.00 per person. Percentages allow two decimal places. These are software limits, not suggested figures.

How does this tool work?
- 1What it does
Compare equal shares, income shares or agreed percentages for care costs. Separate cash for bills from your chosen value for time and things.
- 2How it decides
Divide the monthly cost by your chosen equal, income-share or agreed-percent weights. Allocate whole cents by largest remainder, breaking ties in displayed person order. Count hours only at your chosen hourly value. Keep the actual cash gap separate from noncash discussion values.
- 3Your answers
Inputs stay in this page's memory unless you choose a share link or print. Anyone with a share link can read its monthly cost, chosen hourly value, labels, income or percentage weights and contributions. Inputs are not saved or sent to our server. Clear and leaving the page reset its working figures. Anonymous counts contain no figures.
- 4What it is based on
It uses only your entered figures and the displayed formulas and assumptions. Family members choose their own terms. We review this worksheet every year. Return when costs or contributions change.
- 5What it doesn't do
This summary is for your family to talk over. It is not an agreement, a debt calculation or an instruction to transfer money. Unvalued time and things stay unknown. All figures describe the same month. A one-time purchase is not spread over later months automatically. It covers the United States. This is general information, not legal, medical or financial advice.
What else should you know?
How do we choose a split method?
Your family chooses its own terms. This worksheet can divide the monthly cost equally, in proportion to entered monthly incomes, or by agreed percentages. It does not choose a method for you.
Do hours and things cover the cash gap?
The cash gap compares the monthly cost with entered money contributions only. The discussion table can also count time and things at values you choose. Those discussion values do not supply cash for bills.
What does a blank optional amount mean?
A blank stays unknown. Unvalued time or things remain outside the counted contribution. The worksheet labels that discussion balance as partial. Enter zero for a confirmed zero contribution.
Does a negative discussion balance create a debt?
No. It means the counted contribution value exceeds that person's target share in this scenario. The printable summary is for your family to talk over. It does not create an agreement or direct a payment.
Who can read a shared worksheet?
Anyone with the link can read its monthly cost, hourly value, labels, active weights and contributions. Use short labels instead of full names. Copy only when everyone involved is comfortable sharing. Ordinary changes do not create or send a link.
